I'm here at the International Quilt Museum working

I'm here at the International Quilt Museum working on a project with the incomparable Yvonne Wells.
Yvonne is an accomplished folk artist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who began making applique story quilts in the mid-1980s. Since then, her quilts have been shown and collected all over the world.
@internationalquiltmuseum has 34 quilts by Yvonne in the permanent collection, making her THE most represented artist in the collection.
Yvonne and University of Alabama professor Stacy Morgan will present a lecture tonight feautung their new book "The Story Quilts of Yvonne Wells." Copies available through the IQM gift shop 🥰

"Finally Finished" my solo exhibition of 11 quilts is hanging at Houston International Quilt Market/Festival. Here's a preview.
To be completely accurate, this is not exactly a solo show, rather, I collaborated with makers from the past 150 years. Their names and stories are lost to time, but their quilt tops live on.

International Quilt Festival is 10 days away. I can't wait to see my solo exhibition "Finally Finished" featuring 11 antique quilt tops that I finished on my longarm.
I'll be giving gallery talks everyday at 1 pm (except not on Sunday). Join me! Open to everyone. I just purchased a small voice amplifier so everyone can hear me!!! (For $28 I think this will really help 😁).
I will get a sneak peek of my exhibition on Saturday during the Quilt Market, which is a 3 day B2B event right before Festival. 🥰

Check out my feauture article in QUILTFOLK WASHINGTON on the last caretaker of the Hartsfield African American Slave Quilts.
An 1850s Checkerboard quilt made by a young girl when she was 13 years old, plus 11 other quilts made by her and her descendants, has been preserved and protected by one family through many generations. The quilts are part of the Hartsfield African American Slave Quilts Collection and are currently in the care of Seattle resident Jim Tharpe, who calls himself their last caretaker. These extremely rare quilts have been exhibited many times, most recently at the Columbia Gorge Museum in Stevenson.

Another top FINALLY FINISHED! This simple vintage top intrigued me with its sailboats and wide open negative spaces. I immediately saw space to borrow an art quilt techique - thread painting - and apply it to this old quilt top.
The stars and the sun shapes added a whole new dimension to the design.
All quilting is free motion, no computers.
I bought this top at the Round Top Antiques Fair with my BFF for $45 in 2023. I don't know when this quilt top was made... my guess is it's not that old.
My friend and I have been going to Round Top off and on for more than 20 years! Round Top had gotten a lot of publicity recently as one of the largest antique fairs in the US... but for us, it's still the same old Round Top less than 90 minutes away.

Another lonely quilt top FINALLY FINISHED!
I purchased this top on eBay. I've always wanted a quilt with this pattern - a Joseph's Coat. This one is believed to have been made in the Amish community.
The date is unknown. The cotton fabric is extremely thin, and I feel like it could all have been hand dyed at the same time. It is either a soft muslin, or something like a cotton batiste. And that implies it could be old.
I wanted to keep the quilting very simple, so I only stitched straight lines. I used silk thread in matching colors.
